VMware, latest version of workstation, runs great on my SuSE 8.2 box. I
don't
think there is necessarily any 'best' distro to run it on; go with what
lets you
do the best job.
The RPMs you can download from the VMware site work great, but I think I've
built it from .tar.gz files without any problem.
