basically, you can use the JVM that lies within the printer to serve you (can even make the printer to become your MP3 player or a port scanner if you want to ( well, not very much convenient mp3 player but when you need the extra space... ).
a printer has network connections, a memory , an operating system, user interfaces and lots of other characteristics - so you can refer to it as a computer... and what's great about printers it's the fact that most admins "forget" to specify rules in the FW etc and enable them to help you go deeper in the pen test.
