Re: Penetration Testing a Firewalled Network

Have you been able to find any mail servers, and determine whether they
exist within an isolated DMZ or not?

You could send a bad email to the server and read the headers to find
out the network infrastructure. At the very least, this could allow you
to try and break into the DMZ and hop into the internal network based on
information on the DMZ (think logs).

This is dependent on the scope of your engagement, and whether or not
this is permitted.

Hope this helps!

How would someone be capable of scanning and attempting to determine internal IP addresses beyond the firewall when pen-testing across the internet. Is it as simple as defining static routes to push all packets to the destinations firewall(gateway)? Maybe I am overthinking this issue but so far I haven't been able to be able to come up with an acceptable answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
