Try to use font packages from /usr/lib/texmf/tex/latex/psnfss directory:
\usepackage{times} (if you use Times Roman font)
or
\usepackage{mathptm} (if you use Times Roman and math)
or
\usepackage{helvet} (if you use sans serif font)
