T 4.15 Sending a fax message to a wrong recipient due to misconnection

Incorrect linkages in the public telecommunications network or simply incorrect dialling can cause fax information to be transmitted to the wrong recipient. As a result, confidential information could be disclosed to unauthorised parties. The consequential damage depends on the confidentiality of the information. In addition, the initiator will incorrectly assume that the fax message has been transferred successfully to the desired addressee. The resulting time delay could prove detrimental.

Example:

A well-known German company lost a major international order because the offer was accidentally sent to the wrong recipient.
