The operation of fax machines requires certain consumables. These consumables include paper, printing accessories (toner, ink, or intermediate foil). If one of these consumables is depleted, incoming fax messages can no longer be printed although they are being received correctly. Due to its limited capacity, a buffer memory can only delay, but not prevent, the rejection or loss of fax messages in the long term.
