S 1.19 Protection against break-in

Experience suggests that intruders select their targets by weighing up the amount of risk and effort involved against the expected rewards. Therefore all the measures aimed at protecting against break-ins should be aimed at minimising the prospects of success of intruders. The possible measures for protection against break-ins should be adapted to the local situation. These include:

Advice in this regard can be obtained from the local advice office of the criminal investigation department.

When planning physical security measures, care must be taken to ensure that provisions relating to fire and personal protection, e.g. regarding the serviceability of escape routes, are not violated. This applies especially where changes are made to fire protection elements which are subject to release by type.

Staff must be informed as to the anti-burglary measures that are to be observed.

Within a building the installation of burglar-resistant elements may also be appropriate, for example setting up special access-controlled areas for server rooms or the core units of a computer centre.
